Previous drummer Bob Bryar left the band . Who takes his place session drummer Michael Pedikon . history Band members from cities in Belleville and Kearny, New Jersey , except Bob Bryar , who hails from Chicago, Illinois . Name My Chemical Romance offered bassist - Mikey Way , borrowing it from the Irvine Welsh book Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance ( Ecstasy : Three stories about love and chemistry ) . The group was founded by Gerard Ueem and drummer Matt Pelisserom who became friends in high school . The first song they wrote was Skylines and Turnstiles ( written by Gerard after the September 11 tragedy , which he witnessed was that caused him to completely revise their views on life and make music ) .
