Celebrate Black History Month with Daily Facts! In 1926, Carter G. Woodson founded Negro History Week with the goal of educating American people about African-American history with a focus on cultural backgrounds and reputable achievements. In 1976, the week would be celebrated as "Black History Month," also now known as "African American History Month" in the United States and Canada. The same celebration occurs in the United Kingdom in October. While Black History Month is celebrated by some, it is contested by others. Does the acknowledgement of one month inadvertently defray the appreciation of our heritage and success during the other 11 months? Why were we "given" the shortest and coldest month of the year? Hopefully, the daily acknowledgment and appreciation of our heritage and our achievements during the month of February is catalyst for the same throughout the year. On this day in... Did you know...
