On October 17, 2008 at 5:58 p.m., Rodney Thompson's life came to a tragic end while driving. There were various distractions that played a factor: speed, music, and texting. Rodney reached for his phone to either read, or respond to a text message and in that instant, his life was lost, and many lives were changed forever. In an effort to raise awareness about the dangers of texting and driving, Rodney' mother, Diveeta Thompson, has been working diligently throughout the community to spread the word about the dangers of distracted driving; more specifically not texting while driving. She is very passionate about lending her voice to save the lives of others. In doing so, she can assure that Rodney's life is remembered, not merely the specifics surrounding his death. On April 30, 2010 she took her voice to a national level by appearing on the Oprah Winfrey show.
